Assessed Level 2 VTQ course
A practical, sector-focused course for security managers, supervisors and responsible persons who need to identify hazards, evaluate risk and produce suitable, defensible risk assessments for private-security operations.
Course overview
Security operations expose people, customers, premises and services to a wide range of hazards. A useful risk assessment must do more than list generic dangers: it must reflect the task, location, people affected, existing controls and the way the service is actually delivered.
This course develops a structured approach to identifying hazards, judging likelihood and potential severity, selecting proportionate controls and recording the findings clearly. Learners apply the process to private-security examples rather than relying only on general health-and-safety scenarios.
It is suitable for people already completing risk assessments and for those being prepared to take on greater operational, supervisory, compliance or contract-management responsibility.
Who should attend?
The course is intended for organisations that want risk assessment to be understood and applied by the people who manage, supervise or review private-security services.
For managers responsible for service delivery, compliance, operational controls or client requirements.
For supervisors who identify site hazards, brief personnel and implement local control measures.
For people overseeing guarding, mobile patrol, keyholding, response or control-room activities.
For responsible persons supporting audits, management systems, documented controls and continual improvement.
Course content
The course combines core risk-assessment principles with private-security standards, operational examples, group exercises and an individual assessment task.
Assessment and certification
Learners must complete the practical course activities and demonstrate the required knowledge before certification is issued.
Learners participate in the exercises, apply the structured assessment process and complete the required risk-assessment task.
The multiple-choice assessment is completed using an internet-enabled phone or device through the ProTrainings virtual classroom, with results available promptly after submission.
Successful learners receive a ProTrainings digital VTQ certificate for the private-security risk-assessment course.
The course certificate is valid for three years from successful completion.
Learners receive access to their personal ProTrainings account and digital certification record.
