A practical and engaging one-day course designed to help learners recognise an emergency, act quickly and provide confident first aid until further help arrives. AED training is included as standard.
Course outline
Emergency First Aid at Work is an ideal introduction to workplace first aid for people who may need to take control during the first critical minutes of an incident. Learners develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to assess a casualty, summon help and provide immediate care.
The course combines clear instruction, repeated skills practice and realistic workplace scenarios. Rather than simply memorising a sequence, learners are encouraged to understand what they are doing, why it matters and how to respond calmly when circumstances are not perfect.
Training is designed around the recognised Emergency First Aid at Work syllabus and includes CPR, AED use, choking, seizures, burns, shock and the control of bleeding, including life-threatening bleeding.

Who attends?
Suitable for nominated workplace first aiders, self-employed people and staff who may need to provide immediate assistance before professional help arrives.
Important: the appropriate level of workplace first-aid provision should be determined by the employer’s first-aid needs assessment. Higher-risk, remote or more complex workplaces may require the three-day First Aid at Work course and/or additional specialist training.

The learning experience
Learners build capability by seeing skills demonstrated, practising them for themselves and applying them within realistic scenarios.
Each learner has dedicated access during CPR practice, supporting repetition, feedback and confidence without waiting to share.
Learners practise with training defibrillators from different leading manufacturers and learn principles that transfer between devices.
Two stand-up choking manikins are shared during the choking module for realistic back-blow and abdominal-thrust practice.
Practical exercises help learners make decisions, communicate clearly and respond when an emergency is not a textbook example.
Workplace and security-sector relevance
The course is designed to cover the recommended content for an Emergency First Aid at Work course and to support employers in meeting their workplace first-aid arrangements under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
HSE no longer approves individual first-aid training providers or qualifications. Employers remain responsible for selecting a competent provider and ensuring the training is appropriate for their first-aid needs assessment.
This EFAW course includes face-to-face practical assessment, airway management and life-threatening bleeding content. It can provide the first-aid evidence required before door supervisor or security guard licence-linked training, subject to the training provider completing the SIA’s required checks.
For SIA licence-linked training, the first-aid certificate must normally be valid for at least a further 12 months when that training begins. Learners should confirm the requirements and timing with their SIA training provider before booking.
After successful completion
Successful learners receive certification and access to supporting resources so they can revisit key learning after the course.
Certificates are available through the learner’s personal online dashboard after successful completion and processing.
Learners receive up to eight months’ access to training videos to reinforce important knowledge and skills.
A downloadable manual provides a useful reference for revisiting the course content.
Learners can access a CPD credit-time statement for their completed course.
